Regulation and entities
Your protection depends on which company holds your account, and that depends on where you live. Each row is one licensed company. What regulation means

Watch out for look-alike sites
We have not recorded any look-alike sites for OANDA. That does not mean none exist.
A clone firm copies a real broker’s name, licence number and branding to take deposits. The register shows the genuine firm, so the surest check is the contact details: if the website, email or phone number you were given is not the one on the register, treat it as a clone. Leverage and margin
Leverage lets you open a position bigger than your deposit, so losses grow as fast as gains. The caps below are the most OANDA allows; you can always use less.
Licensed by strict regulators in the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Japan
No minimum account balance and no deposit or withdrawal fees on the UK site
Guaranteed stop-loss orders available in the UK (for a fee)
Watch out for
Clients outside the countries with a local OANDA company may be placed with OANDA Global Markets Ltd, which holds only an offshore licence from the BVI FSC
UK inactivity fee after 12 months without trading, up to £20 a month
The NFA's BASIC record for OANDA Corporation lists past NFA and CFTC regulatory actions; read them there before you open a US account
Overview
OANDA is a forex and CFD broker that runs a separate company in each region it serves. Which site you see, and which company you sign with, depends on your country. US clients trade spot forex with OANDA Corporation. UK clients trade CFDs and spread bets with OANDA Europe Limited. Clients in countries without a local company may be placed with OANDA Global Markets Ltd in the British Virgin Islands.
Regulation and safety
We checked eight licences. OANDA Corporation appears on the NFA’s BASIC register as a futures commission merchant and retail foreign exchange dealer (NFA ID 0325821). Its record lists past NFA and CFTC actions, which you can read there. OANDA Europe Limited is authorised by the FCA (542574). OANDA TMS Brokers S.A., the EU company, is supervised by Poland’s KNF. We confirmed it on ESMA’s register because the KNF site did not load for us. The Canadian, Australian, Singaporean and Japanese companies are on their regulators’ registers.
OANDA Global Markets Ltd is licensed by the BVI FSC, an offshore regulator with lighter protection. Our regulation guide explains the difference, and check a broker helps you confirm the company on your contract.
Costs
On the UK site, spreads start from 0.6 pips on EUR/USD and 1.3 pips on USD/JPY, with no separate commission on the standard account. These are minimums; OANDA publishes historical spreads if you want averages. Retail margin starts at 3.3% on EUR/USD. Financing applies to positions held overnight, and an inactivity fee applies after 12 months without trading. The trading costs guide shows how to compare.
Platforms and tools
OANDA’s own web and mobile platforms sit alongside MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and TradingView. See MT4 vs MT5.
Deposits and withdrawals
The UK site lists no deposit or withdrawal fees from OANDA. You can fund by card or by bank transfer (Faster Payments or BACS for GBP).
Who it may suit
The set-up fits traders in the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, Singapore or Japan who want a local, strictly regulated company and no minimum balance. If you would be placed with the BVI company, weigh the weaker protection first.
How to open an account
The steps as we checked them. Never deposit until you have confirmed the licence.
Check which company you will join
The site you land on depends on your country. UK residents join OANDA Europe Limited (FCA), EU residents OANDA TMS Brokers S.A. (KNF), US residents OANDA Corporation (NFA). Others join the local company or, through the global site, OANDA Global Markets Ltd (BVI).
Choose a sub-account
In the UK you can hold CFD and spread betting sub-accounts. The UK standard account has no minimum balance.
Verify, fund and practise
Verify your identity, fund by card or bank transfer in your own name and try the demo before you trade.
