How we are funded

Advertising disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links. Here is where they appear, how they are labelled, and what they do and do not change.

The short version

  • Some links to brokers are affiliate links. If you open an account through one, we may earn a commission.
  • They only appear in placements labelled "Sponsored", never in the text of an article or lesson.
  • A commission never changes our broker profiles, our articles or the order brokers appear in.
  • It costs you nothing extra to use our link, and you never have to use it.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is a tracked link to a broker's website. If you follow it and open an account, the broker can see you came from us and may pay us a commission. The payment comes from the broker, not from you. Commissions are what keep this site free, with no paywall and no sign-up.

Where affiliate links appear

Only in these places, and each one is built the same way:

  • The partner box shown in magazine articles and on broker profiles.
  • The sponsored buttons on the broker cards on the broker profiles page.
  • The sponsored buttons in the comparison table on that page.
  • The sponsored buttons on the compare brokers page.

Every one of these placements:

  • carries a visible "Sponsored" label;
  • states, on the link or on the same page, that we may earn a commission;
  • sits beside a risk warning. The partner box shows the broker's own regulatory risk warning word for word; the broker pages carry a leveraged-trading risk warning alongside their sponsored buttons;
  • is marked in the page code with rel="sponsored", which tells search engines the link is paid. It also carries nofollow and noopener and opens in a new tab.

You will not find affiliate links hidden in the words of an article, a lesson, a glossary entry or a tool. If you ever see one, please tell us, because it would break our own rules.

What a commission does not change

  • Broker profiles. Every profile follows the same checklist and reports the same facts, whether or not we have a relationship with the broker. A profile says when we do. Read how we review brokers.
  • Articles and lessons. No broker sees or approves what we write. See our editorial policy.
  • The order brokers appear in. A commercial relationship does not move a broker up a list. We do not publish rankings, scores, star ratings or "best broker" lists at all.

About the risk warnings

Most brokers we link to offer CFDs (contracts for difference) and leveraged forex. Many regulators require them to publish a risk warning, which often says what share of the broker's retail accounts lose money. We show it word for word in the partner box and on each broker profile. Read it before you click.
