Watch out for look-alike sites

We have not recorded any look-alike sites for Tickmill. That does not mean none exist.

A clone firm copies a real broker’s name, licence number and branding to take deposits. The register shows the genuine firm, so the surest check is the contact details: if the website, email or phone number you were given is not the one on the register, treat it as a clone. • Raw account with spreads from 0.0 pips and a $3 commission per lot per side
  • No withdrawal fees from Tickmill and a $100 minimum deposit on Classic and Raw

Watch out for

  • The global site's risk warning says losses can exceed the initial investment; negative balance protection is a rule for UK and EU retail clients, not stated for the Seychelles company
  • The FCA has warned about clone firms using Tickmill UK's details (FX Profit Broker / FXPB / Armada Markets UK LTD and FxoptionTrade Limited)

Overview

Tickmill is a forex and CFD broker that offers MetaTrader 4 and 5, its own Tickmill Trader platform and TradingView. There are two main account types, Classic (spread only) and Raw (spread plus commission), with futures accounts on top. The company you join depends on where you live.

Regulation and safety

We checked five licences. Tickmill UK Ltd is authorised by the FCA (717270) and Tickmill Europe Ltd holds CySEC licence 278/15. CySEC lists tickmill.com/eu as its approved domain. Tickmill South Africa (Pty) Ltd is an authorised FSP (49464). Tickmill UK also runs a representative office licensed by the DFSA in Dubai. A representative office may market the group but cannot hold client accounts. Tickmill Ltd, the company behind the global site, is listed by the FSA Seychelles as a securities dealer. That is an offshore licence with lighter protection.

The FCA register warns that clone firms such as FX Profit Broker and FxoptionTrade Limited have used Tickmill UK’s details. Our guides to broker regulation and broker scams explain what to check, and check a broker helps you confirm the company.

Costs

Classic quotes spreads from 1.6 pips with no commission. Raw quotes from 0.0 pips with a $3 commission per lot per side, so $6 round turn. Tickmill Trader Raw charges $3.50 per side. These are minimum spreads; Tickmill shows live spreads and swaps by instrument. The trading costs guide shows how to compare the two accounts for your own volume.

Platforms and tools

MetaTrader 4 and 5, the MetaTrader WebTrader, Tickmill Trader, TradingView and a mobile app. See MT4 vs MT5.

Deposits and withdrawals

The minimum deposit is $100. Tickmill charges no withdrawal fees and covers bank fees on single wire deposits of $5,000 or more. Third-party payments are not accepted.

Who it may suit

The set-up fits UK, EU and South African traders who want a locally licensed company and a choice between spread-only and commission pricing. Clients of the global site should weigh the offshore licence and the warning that losses can exceed deposits. Whichever company you join, try the demo account first and compare Classic and Raw costs on your own trades.

How to open an account

The steps as we checked them. Never deposit until you have confirmed the licence.

  1. Check which company you will join

UK residents join Tickmill UK Ltd (FCA), EU residents Tickmill Europe Ltd (CySEC) and South Africans Tickmill South Africa (FSCA). Clients of the global site join Tickmill Ltd (Seychelles). The company is named in the client agreement.

  2. Choose Classic or Raw

Classic has spreads from 1.6 pips and no commission. Raw has spreads from 0.0 pips and a $3 commission per lot per side ($3.50 for Tickmill Trader Raw). Both need $100; futures accounts need $1,000.

  3. Fund from your own account

Deposits must come from a payment method in your name. Withdrawals go back to the card first, up to the amount deposited, then to your other method.
