Regulation and entities
Your protection depends on which company holds your account, and that depends on where you live. Each row is one licensed company. What regulation means
Before you deposit: search the licence number on the register, then check that the website and phone number listed there match the ones you are using. How to check a licence
Websites
Official websites
✓etoro.com
Type the address yourself or use a bookmark. Check it matches the website listed for the firm on the regulator’s register.
Watch out for look-alike sites
These addresses have used eToro’s name but are not run by it:
✗etorosb.com(not official)
A clone firm copies a real broker’s name, licence number and branding to take deposits. The register shows the genuine firm, so the surest check is the contact details: if the website, email or phone number you were given is not the one on the register, treat it as a clone. Check a broker step by step
Accounts and costs
Account types and costs not yet checked.
Cost per lot = typical EUR/USD spread × $10 + round-turn commission, for one standard lot (100,000 units) in busy hours. Swap and other fees are extra. Trading costs explained
Leverage and margin
Leverage lets you open a position bigger than your deposit, so losses grow as fast as gains. The caps below are the most eToro allows; you can always use less.
Licensed by CySEC, the FCA and ASIC, with retail negative balance protection in those regions
Copy trading built into the platform, with the same account used for CFDs, stocks and crypto
Low first deposit in some countries ($10 in the UK)
Watch out for
eToro's website could not be loaded during our check on 2026-10-20; the cost details on this page come from eToro's own fee and help pages read through a search tool, so confirm them on etoro.com before you trade.
eToro now prices CFDs as the market spread plus an opening and closing spread fee charged as a percentage (0.005% per trade on EUR/USD), which is harder to compare with pip-based spreads.
Deposits and withdrawals that need a currency conversion carry a conversion fee, and USD withdrawals cost $5
MetaTrader is not offered; you can only trade on eToro's own platform
Overview
eToro is a trading app that combines CFDs with real stocks, ETFs and crypto in one account, and is best known for copy trading, where you follow other users’ trades. This profile covers only its forex and CFD offer. Trading is on eToro’s own web platform and app; MetaTrader is not available.
Regulation and safety
We checked these on the regulators’ registers on 20 October 2026: eToro (Europe) Ltd (CySEC 109/10), eToro (UK) Ltd (FCA 583263), eToro AUS Capital Limited (ASIC AFSL 491139) and eToro (ME) Ltd (ADGM FSRA, FSP 220073, permitted to deal in OTC derivatives with retail clients as matched principal). eToro (Seychelles) Limited is on the FSA Seychelles list of securities dealers; the list gives no numbers, so SD076 is eToro’s own figure. The Seychelles licence is offshore tier.
Your protection depends on the company you join. UK clients have the FSCS and EU clients the Cypriot investor compensation fund. The FCA has warned about a clone firm using the name eToro SB Limited at etorosb.com. See forex broker regulation and forex broker scams.
Costs
eToro’s fee pages, which we read through a search tool because the site would not load for us, say that from 10 August 2026 CFD costs are the market spread plus an opening and closing spread fee. For EUR/USD that fee is listed as 0.005% per trade, for USD/JPY 0.002% and for gold 0.01%. Overnight fees apply to CFDs held past 21:00 GMT on weekdays. Deposits and withdrawals that need a currency conversion carry a conversion fee, and withdrawals from a USD account cost $5. We have not listed typical pip spreads. The trading costs guide explains how to turn a percentage fee into a cost per lot.
Platforms and tools
eToro runs its own web platform and mobile app, with copy trading and a virtual practice portfolio. There is no MetaTrader and no Expert Advisors. If you use MT4 robots, see MT4 vs MT5 for the alternatives.
Deposits and withdrawals
The minimum first deposit depends on your country, from $10 in the UK and US up to $10,000. Withdrawals from local-currency GBP, EUR or DKK accounts are free; from a USD account they cost $5, with a $30 minimum. eToro’s help centre says it stopped charging an inactivity fee on 28 May 2026.
Who it may suit
The set-up fits people who want to try copy trading or keep CFDs next to real shares in one app, under an FCA, CySEC or ASIC licence. Traders who need MetaTrader or pip-based raw spreads will find it different. Start on the virtual portfolio and read our demo account guide.
